An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to join our Waste Disposal Team at the Waste Transfer Station. If you are a hands-on leader with experience in a fast-paced operational environment, this is your chance to play a key role in keeping Torbay clean and running efficiently.

Employment details

 

·         Salary: £34,094-£37,226 

·         Job type: Permanent

·         Hours: Fulltime, 40 hours per week

·         Working hours: Monday - Friday 11:30 - 20:00

 

 

About the role

 

As a Team Leader, you will:

 

  • Lead and support a team within the baling hall operations
  • Ensure waste and recycling are processed efficiently and safely
  • Oversee the day-to-day running and maintenance of the transfer station
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety, cleanliness, and organisation
  • Respond to the demands of a busy, time-critical environment

 

This is a hands-on leadership role, where you’ll lead by example and work alongside your team.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Operating plant and machinery, such as forklifts, loading shovel and telehandlers to load and unload recycling and waste
  • Keeping the transfer station, equipment and plant clean and tidy
  • Undertaking day to day maintenance tasks across the site including repairs, grounds maintenance, carpentry and decorating.
  • Cleaning vehicles, to ensure they are free of dirt and waste materials.

 

 

What we are looking for

 

Essential

 

Skills and Effectiveness

  • Effective people management and leadership skills
  • Effective organisational skills as well as being able to apply effective attention to detail.
  • Able to work on own initiative proactively and with minimum direction.

 

Knowledge

  • Effective knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective leadership qualities and practices.

 

Experience

  • Previous supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Experience of working in a time critical environment.

 

Qualifications 

  • HGV Class 2 Licence  

 

Desirable

  • Plant operator licences (e.g. loading shovel, telehandler)
  • Experience in waste, recycling, or similar operational environments
